aptain Butler went to work for the Ardmore Fire Department in 1985 as a Firefighter advancing through the ranks to Driver then Captain.
With the wide variety of services the fire department provides, he is busy with tasks ranging from groping through smoke so thick you can't see your hand in front of your face looking for victims to extricating the wounded from car wrecks. In addition, he teaches our children about fire safety with "hands on" training in a trailer specially designed to simulate dangerous situations while still being a controlled environment.

From our children to the aged, he works with them all. The fire station received a note recently from a disabled, widow who wanted to thank Captain Butler for making a special trip to her home on Labor Day evening to check out a faulty kitchen stove.

"I was afraid to go to sleep without a fire check. He was so nice and polite as well as knowledgeable," said the grateful citizen. Captain Butler is also involved in many medical calls.

One day he received a call saying a lady might be drunk, but needed help. It turned out, she was diabetic and her blood sugar was so low her life was gravely threatened. With quick treatment, her life was saved.

In order to meet this vast array of daily challenges, Captain Butler has completed training in Haz-Mat Operations, Auto Extraction, Ropes, Fire Instructor, Dodd-Beals Petroleum Fire Training, Trench Rescue, Confined Space Rescue and EMT Training to name a few. Off duty, Darin is studying for his commercial pilot exam. His interests include flying, specialized welding, engine repair, water skiing, music and playing with his son, Cory.

Captain Butler states, "Ardmore has many opportunities for families. It has a nice football stadium, softball complex and golf courses. A 5,000 ft. runway allows larger aircraft to land in Ardmore. We have a historical downtown, beautiful lake and nice racecar track just south of town. I would recommend Ardmore to anyone wanting to move to Southern Oklahoma." The Chamber salutes Captain Butler and all Ardmore firemen for risking their lives to protect our city!
